HACK Robotics Academy strives to develop and enhance 21st century digital skills to empower students to be confident in communicating, collaborating, creating, problem solving, designing, programing, and excel in gaming performance for an audience.
Lisa Lista, an educator of 26 years, has taught multiple grade levels in both elementary and secondary levels. Lisa has a master’s degree in education of administrative services and a bachelor’s degree in child development. She also has a CTE (Career and Technical Education) credential in Information Communication Technology. With her CTE credential, Lisa taught junior high students robotics and coding for 4 years. She has taught diverse groups of students, led professional development as an instructional coach for district colleagues, and currently manages a school site of 65 staff members and 590 students as an assistant principal at an elementary school. Lisa previously collaborated as an educator ambassador for litttleBits company presenting at conferences demonstrating implementation of STEAM based learning.
LittleBits
Students in grades Kindergarten-6th will utilize littleBits electronics. littleBits is part of the Sphero STEAM curriculum. Engineering and coding are fused together in the pre-coded pieces the students link together. Pieces are magnetic and easy to assemble. Curriculum is provided through Sphero and littleBits supports imaginative learning. Creators build the electronic pathways, create a project from boxes, recyclables, and other items, then put together to design a working object.
For advanced students in 4th-12th grade with prior understanding of electronics, The littleBits STEAM+ Coding set is next level learning. Users apply block coding through an app to code the littleBits pieces to animate a designed project.
LegoEducation
STEAM learning is also fostered through Lego Education using Coding Express for preschool and kindergarten students, Spike Essential for grades 1st-4th, and Spike Prime for 5th-12thgraders. Users build strictly with Lego brick pieces to code for light, movement, and sound through an app.
VEX
VEX Robotics delivers high level problem solving with engineering and game strategy. Users construct various projects and code with block drag and drop or Python. VEX EXP is constructed with metal parts and geared for students in grades 9-12. Through a gaming design, students are encouraged to develop reasoning and justification during engineering process and build confidence to perform maneuvers and tasks in small group settings, in front of an audience, and at competition level.
